About Us
Discover who we are, what drives us and why Gloucester City Council is a rewarding place to work.
Who we are
Gloucester City Council is a forward-thinking local authority at the heart of one of England's most historic cities. We provide the essential services that keep Gloucester running — from planning and housing to environmental services, visitor attractions and community support.
Our vision is simple: to make Gloucester a city that works for everyone. That means delivering services that are responsive, inclusive and efficient, while investing in the long-term future of the city and its people.
The city is diverse, with communities known for coming together in both times of need and times of celebration. When you work here, you are not just doing a job — you are directly shaping the place where people live, work and raise their families.
Where we work
Our main base is the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street — an accessible, modern, open-plan office with a living green wall, right in the heart of the city. There are no set desks; it is a genuinely collaborative environment designed to bring people and ideas together.
Most staff are given a laptop and can choose where, how and when they work. Our dress code is relaxed — professional and comfortable. We want you to feel at ease so you can do your best work.
How recruitment works
We use Gloucestershire County Council for our recruitment services, so you may receive emails from them as part of the process.
Our commitment to you
We are proud to be a Disability Confident employer and are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We recognise the positive value of a diverse workforce and strive to create an environment where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential.
We have seven employee networks — including the Race Equality Network, Prism (LGBT+), the Young Employee Network and the Disability Network — that provide a supportive space for colleagues to connect and champion inclusion across the organisation.
